FIRE DOORS
Manufacture & Installation

Manufacture & installation

What do our fire doors do?

The prime purpose for fire doors is to save lives and stop the progression of fire. Supporting both escaping occupants and fire-fighting activities. They are an important part of a building's passive fire protection system and an essential requirement for the vast majority of premises including residential, public buildings, offices, schools and factories.

From blank to protection...

Our doors begin with a quality blank sourced from a certified supplier.

  • STREDOR SOLID TIMBER DOOR CORES Stredor is a lightweight, solid timber door core available laminated with premium Beech, EV or MDF faces. Stredor has been extensively tested to BS 476: Part 22 for both FD30 and FD60, has security evidence to PAS24: 2016 and is suitable for both internal and external applications.

  • STREBORD PARTICLEBOARD DOOR CORES
Strebord particleboard is the market leader for both 35mm & 44mm FD30 and 54mm FD60
fire-rated, as well as non-fire-rated door cores. They are very robust and manufactured to
close tolerances to suit modern joinery processes.

  • TRI-Sound S3K - FD30

  • TRI-Sound S3D - FD60

All door blanks are then programmed into our own CNC machine to be cut according to their specification, this allows for accurate design finishes. These doors are then sanded and prepped with lipping before being sprayed a colour of your choice or lacquered. Both coloured and plain finishes are completed with a specialised lacquer with hard wearing properties for a long lasting finish.

For further information regarding RAL colouring and finishes please contact the team and we can help you find the perfect finish for your fire doors.

Door testing

How and why are products tested?

Fire door set testing is carried out to ensure that the product being produced will do its job of slowing the spread of fire and smoke. Once it is established that a manufacturers specification is meeting the required standardisation, they will then be considered for certification. Once certification is gained, fire doors are then identifiable through stickers found on the door set. The one displayed to the right of our door is required for fire door identification.

When determining the FD rating of fire doors, manufacturers have their fire doors assessed through a testing procedure as specified in BS 476-22:1987 or BS EN 1634-1:2014. Tests are carried out on a complete fire door set: i.e.. the fire door and door frame with all the required ironmongery (e.g. locks, latches, hinges, etc).

The door set is fixed in a wall representing its use in within a building. The test procedure consists of exposing one face of the door to the heat conditions anticipated in a fire while observing the door for stability and integrity. The passable standard requires the tests to be carried out with the upper part of the door under a small positive pressure, thus simulating the conditions likely to occur in a fire. It also provides an method of identifying the loss of integrity of a fire door by the implementation of a combustible fibrous pad on the unexposed side of the door to see at what time it ignites.

A fire door should be tested from each side to establish its performance with either face exposed to fire conditions, two sets are required. It is predicted that all fire doors and door frames manufactured to the same specification as the two supplied sets, will then achieve the same fire resisting properties.

Our doors in action...

EVO Site fire door

These images were taken in a North London School in which we had, that day, fitted the "EVO 30's".

That evening an electrical fault caused what could have been a devastating fire, up to 30 members of staff where still in the building when this occurred

There were certainly lessons learnt and motives reinforced from this occurrence, our correctly fitted fire doors saved lives and here at Evolution we are reminded that this is why we do what we do

We are incredibly proud of our fitters for this job and

thankful that all staff involved in the incident were

safe and well.

Traceability & Project Management

We locate and manage our projects and doors via a platform called

This allows our employees on site to record the survey, snagging/ evidence of progression and completion photographs with notation, unique door & location numbers, material usage alongside a labelled map of the contract location. This allows us for complete traceability and transparency between both us and our clients, approvals are displayed to prove accountability and quality assurance.

Chip & Track

OneTrace

Chip and track is a new form of traceability that we are currently trialling, it will allow us to see the doors status without having to visit site. This will be a step forward for us as quarterly maintenance is now mandatory.

Traceability Pin
  • A new an easy way to ensure Fire Door sets are kept in-line with Fire Door Compliance and UK regulations.

  • Installing an Evolution pin and using the app can save up to 70% inspection time.

  • An MOT style report is automatically issued in real time when the inspection is completed.

  • All data is held in the UK, fully encrypted, automatically backed up with no risk of loss.

  • A Dashboard overview showing the compliance status.

  • Fire doors can be pinned at the time of manufacture or retrofitted without expensive tooling.

  • The status of unchecked, failed and compliant doors is all listed in a simple overview, site-by-site using the dashboard.

  • Real time data capture and syncing for manufacture, installation, inspection and maintenance checks throughout the life cycle of the fire door stock.
