The more care, the less wear & tear! Evolutions Guide to looking after your fire doors...

It's not as easy as waiting till your next maintenance inspection to take action when it comes to caring for your doors. These have to been done on a regular basis to ensure your doors are working accordingly and looking their best. Were going to give you the best pointers for keeping your doors up to scratch.

So lets get stuck in!

*don't use abrasive cloths or sponges such as scouring pads

Removing dust & dirt:

Dust the doors using a soft lint-free dry cloth only in the direction of the grain.

  • To remove dirt, wipe with a soft lint-free cloth wrung out with warm water. Ensure the door is dried thoroughly with a soft lint-free dry cloth in the same direction as the grain. For difficult marks or grease use a very weak solution of soap or washing-up liquid in water.

  • Spills of any kind should be wiped clean as soon as possible.

  • Never use any silicon-based product or other spray polishes when cleaning. These will result in deterioration of the doors appearance over time.

  • Do not use abrasives or any chemical cleaners such as metal polish. This may damage the surface. The use of wax polish onto modern lacquered finishes is not recommended.

*repairs and amendments should either be done in line with the manufacturers guidelines or by a competent contractor that is certified to do so.

Avoiding scratches & dents:

Scratches and dents are often caused by impact, or the doors being exposed to sharp objects.

  • Ensure doors avoid being kicked or pushed with harsh solid objects.

  • Ensure sharp objects or tools are kept away from the doors, these scratches and dents can result in damage to the finishing. Long term, with persistent impact can cause non-conformances.

*always consult the manufacturer prior to commencing any modifications or repairs to doors. It's always safer to get a certified contractor to carry out these repairs and amendments.

Don'ts - Causes of loss of integrity:

Loss of integrity refers to the doors fire protection ability. The following actions may cause your fire doors to lose their protective ability.

  • Persistent impact on the doors may cause cracks.

  • Screwing things into the doors results in an increased potential for fire and smoke penetration.

  • Painting the doors can sometimes see the seals getting coated, this then makes the protective ability void. Our paint and lacquered finishes are of high quality and sprayed prior to strips being fitted keeping the quality and doors remaining compliant.
